The Embellished Bride

Children's Books and Wedding Styles

When we found out we were going to be featured in a children's book inspired spread in Brides local magazines, I was so excited. Given the recent children's books to movies craze (Where the Wild Things Are, Alice in Wonderland) this has to be one of the coolest ideas around. Brides took several different children's books and designed wedding inspiration boards around them. The Yellow Poppy invitation by Kate Spade that we carry was part of the Waiting for Wings - inspired board. The entire look is just so gorgeous and summery, we love it! Thanks Brides! You can pick up a Brides local magazine anywhere you are, since they're everywhere from Boston to Colorado.

Winter Color Inspiration

I came across this image of silk tops the other day, and was immediately struck by the amazing color palette. It would be perfect for a winter wedding! My wheels are turning on how I can incorporate this palette into my own winter event.

High Relief

Three-dimensional details are popping up everywhere. The Reaching Up invitation available on einvite.com uses embossing to give its blossoms a subtle texture that feels good and catches the eye. The new amazing Silk Dupioni Rosette Dress from J Crew expertly swirls silk into spiraling rosettes and wakes up the senses. The bouquet is from Housemartin and its Papaya Ecuadoran roses echo the "sweet papaya" hue of the dress. Rich and enticing.

Wedding Invitation Hits the Front Page of Digg

How exciting is this?! A wedding invitation - the oldest of old world communication (other than bibles, political essays, and newsprint) made the front page of Digg.com, arguably the epitome of so-called "new media" (a major social news aggregator amongst many, of course).

Congratulations to Kayrock (the printer) and Jill & Matt (the happy couple). It seems that Jill did the layout, which is a monster of an undertaking - there's a lot going on. Check it out:

Sand and Sea: A Wedding Aquatic

As refreshing as cool, clear water, aqua and teal tones are always a perfect compliment to rich ivory, sand, and gold tones. The stunning Crane & Co. Ecru Lettre Kensington Card invitation ensemble with "Peacock" ink (center left) and the rich teal Dots & Stripes Border card by eInvite that could accompany as the save-the-date (center right), are the pieces that first inform guests of your aquatic affair. Whimsical octopus earrings from Anthropologie are an unexpected delight. Beach glass vases of varying heights would pair nicely with sea grass braided storage baskets holding programs or fans (bottom, both from West Elm). Finally, Brides.com offers ideas for a seaside placesetting, with plates that seem to hold the ocean's bubbles, and sand dollar cookies as a cute take-away favor (top left and right).

Orange Blossoms

The bright orange and white contrast of the Dandelion Dance invitation by einvite inspired this collection of images. The cocktail infusion party favors from beaucoup are an interesting idea for a spring or summer wedding, bridal shower, or party - and the packaging is irresistible. The profusion of petals that constitutes a dahlia and the pile of pots (images via marthastewart.com) make me smile and get excited about the new blooms popping up!

Pretty Plum Pocket

The line of pocket invitations by Marsupial on eInvite caught my eye today. Tucking all the pieces of a wedding ensemble into a neat little pocket and sealing with a custom seal definitely makes for stunning presentation. I couldn't resist pairing this plum pocket with the elegant Badgley Mischka bridesmaid's dress found on Brides.com and the amazing reception floral branch table centerpiece featured on Style Me Pretty.

Days in Sandy Linen

Today was hot. Really, really 92 degrees hot. Natural linen and cool, clear water are on my mind. Crane's Ecru Lettra Marquis Card on eInvite, J Crew's Goldwyn dress, Restoration Hardware's Del Mar Daybed, and Martha Stewart's striking pool hued blooms capture the feeling pretty well...

Peonies

If I could do my wedding all over again, I would pick a date in the spring, JUST so I could have in-season peonies. I love the gorgeous pink hues shown here. When huge buds open, they are truly stunning.

Color Trends

NET-A-PORTER is a great stop when you are in the need for a bit of visual inspiration. Besides showcasing the hottest fashions on the runway, they do a fabulous job of grouping trends in color and pattern. Citrone, Neon Pink, Sage, Lapis, Ultraviolet, Smythson Coral and Lime have been named the top colors for Spring/Summer. Good to keep in mind whether you are picking your wedding colors, throwing a summer party or shopping for shoes.
